First of all, I gotta say... crazy business this. Fair play to Becks tho. Reported $200 mil over 5 years swayed his choice, considering both Milan clubs were interested.
He is worth it IMO. He'll do wonders for the MLS promotion. He has worked hard over the last 15 years to be a top professional and think this kind of move is good for him. He no doubt sees himself as some sort of ambassador for British football. Maybe he thinks he can do what Best and Pele did in the US and help improve the league there.
Media I believe was one of the major factors in moving to the US. No doubt he can still do a job but he will be more protected in the US. Plus his youth academy is right next door to the LA Galaxy stadium I believe.
Fantastic player irrespective of what people say. Steve McLaren was a fool to drop him completely from the England setup. Model professional and an icon for any youngster wanting to develop.
If he were still involved with the England squad though, even if only on the fringes, I doubt his move to Galaxy would've happened (at least not so soon - he was always going to sign for them eventually).
I feel he's taken the easy option and has given up on representing his country again. He's not going to be anywhere near as challenged in the MLS as he would be playing in Europe. Effectively it's an early retirement for Beckham.
A shame really, as I feel he still has so much to offer. I just hope he doesn't let his foot off the gas as he's one of the hardest working footballers I've seen.
Under McLaren he would never have played for England again. How can people doubt his dedication to play for his country is beyond me. He was almost in tears when he gave up his captaincy. It was a slap in the face for him to be dropped from the England setup and he was used as a scape goat for Englands poor WC performance when, in my humble opinion; there were far more players that underperformed in the WC and walked away scot free.
He will raise the game in America and bring attention to a sport loving nation. I doubt very much that Beckham is a quitter. He has never gave that impression and no doubt he spoke to McLaren and those involved in the England setup before making his choice.
Selected people and media alike treated him like shit during his career in England and also when he left for Spain. I for one don't blame him for moving away to a country were he will gain the respect that he truely deserves.
David Beckham is a family man, you have people on the news saying he has went because of Posh, maybe... But so fucking what?. She is his wife and Mother to his 3 children, she has a right to have an opinion on where she wants to live. Plus the fact he is earning a fortune.
The Beckhams do a fantastic amount for charity and other than IMO fabrication from that stupid cow Loos they seem a very strong couple. I say good luck to them and I wish them every success imaginable.
And yeah... I'm sad, I'll miss him so much. Because David Beckham was my ultimate favorite player ever, and I mean EVER. Before he married Posh, before the entire world knew his name... I followed him. And you can ask anyone who knows me. I cried, screamed, enjoyed, and lived up every single minute he was out there on the pitch, be it Wembley, be it Old Trafford, be it Santiago Bernabeu, be it elsewhere, and I will continue doing so, shame just not at pro level.
"Look around, look around,
Spot the man that can be found,
Open up your eyes and see,
It's David Beckham that we've come to see.
Turn around, turn around,
Scoring at every ground,
Oh, what a sight to see,
See Fergie's face lighting up with glee.
There's a light, shining bright,
And he plays in red and white,
So young lad, don't be sad.
Just play well, on the night,
Unlike the boys in Kappa shite,
And we'll win the league again..."
Thanks for everything David.
